We're FINALLY having Hanukkah this year! The Anne Frank video and essay gave my daughter the courage to finally openly celebrate being a Jew as a family with the Littlest Macaroon, Leira. Yay!

Even though her husband Jason objected before (he's a practicing 7th Day Adventist), Ariel has said that after ten years of marriage, and two secretly celebrated Hanukkahs with Leira (It's also coincidentally - and luckily - her birthday in mid-December).

Yay!

My granddaughter Leira, a.k.a. The Little Macaroon will finally get to have a real Hanukkah with candles and presents and everything. Thanks to the video of Anne Frank essay posted here and on YouTube. Mazel Tov, and L'chaim!

Mom,

I would love to have a real Hanukkah celebration. We have room at our new place.
Why don't we set a date and make it a big deal. I'm sure Leira would love
that!!!

Dear Ariel,

So can we PLEASE have a real Hanukkah this year, and I have the wiki page that will explain to Jason (Ariel's husband; a practicing 7th Day Adventist) why the Star of David is not the same thing as an inverted Pagan 5-pointed star?

This story about the Anne Frank footage popped up on my "AOL Welcome" page when I logged in this morning. After I read the article and looked the the rest of the YouTube videos linked to it, especially the haunting "virtual tour" of their home (hideout), I started to read the comments and then I started to get truly frightened:

I offer to the iThou Circle this dream catcher that was made for me by a patient as a gift. It is a reminder for me to be present to the suffering that I encounter in my life. My time as a hospice nurse is on hold for the moment but in my daily life there are so many situations that can be given the gift of true listening and witnessed whether a tangible outcome is possible or not. The recent posts from both Mindy and Anjela brought this dream catcher back into my awareness and I feel it is time to pass along this symbol of being with those who are suffering.

I offer to the iThou Circle this original drawing (graphite on paper, 5"hx 7"w, matted and framed, 8x10) done just for iThou Offering Circle. This gift is to all of us in celebration of the abundant spirit of the Garden Goddess. Those of you that have been to Esalen will reconize this sculpture as one that looks out over the Esalen Garden. For me she represents all that is green and alive in the world and in each of us. During this time of winter (northern hemisphere) the potential of the seed awaits the spring and the opportunity to eat sunlight, grow, and join the dance... This is gratefully offered.

First, this offering is being given to the iThou circle. The person that feels they want/need to receive this can contact me Steven Harper here at this entry and say something of why they are receiving this from the iThou circle (not personally from me).

One Ringy Dingy....or One Good Ring Deserves Another...

I have had this silver ring (size 6) for 10 years or more. It was purchased in Pacific City, OR on one of my regular retreats there, by the ocean and in my sacred space. I have had this, treasured and worn it in good health lo these many years and as another ring is ringing its way to me now, I want to place this in the care of the circle as an offering of love, self-sacrifice and trust. On this special day, the meaning of this offering is especially poignant for me. I am moved to give of myself and know that the circle receives willingly, generously and tenderly.

I am giving this silver ring to the iThou circle.

May the person that feels they want/need to receive this contact me here and say something of why they are receiving this from the iThou circle (not personally from me).

The tradition of making offerings, giveaways, and the like are numerous. Many indigenous cultures have some form of passing on gifts as the basis of community life. We are currently doing some form of this with words, music, and pictures. As we weave the fabric of this community it was thought that it might be interesting to initiate a thread of offerings that adds to the fabric of this creation.

This offering is being given to the iThou circle. The person that feels they want/need to receive this can contact me here at this entry and say something of why they are receiving this from the iThou circle (not personally from me).

The recipient can send me me a private message with their address and I will send this to them. You must be a member of iThou and no money is exchanged.

Third, the only “obligation” for the person receiving an object is to find something that they would like to give to the iThou circle in the same manner and spirit of this “offering”.

My offering is at:

 http://www.ithou.org/node/1430 several down.

And here it is again.

The offering is: A light greenish rock I found in big Sur not far (a stones throw) from Esalen, another rock piece of Amethyst I think; A large Book "What Does Woman Want" strangely signed by Tim Leary with a smile....# 1278 signed too by Joana Leary -- a limited 1st edition, unread by me; a small book read by me "The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius" and last but not least PROGRAM ONE of a CD by Alan WATTS called MP3 Lecture Series 2 -- he remains one of my very favorite teachers of all time); I use to go watch films of him many years ago in L.A. somewhere. Just one cd it might have been part of a set.
