This story about the Anne Frank footage popped up on my "AOL Welcome" page when I logged in this morning. After I read the article and looked the the rest of the YouTube videos linked to it, especially the haunting "virtual tour" of their home (hideout), I started to read the comments and then I started to get truly frightened:

I am so blissed that I am starting the Esalen massage 28 day course next week! Since the longest I've ever been at Esalen before is for a 5 day workshop, does anyone have any suggestions for my month there? Things like maybe a nearby day hike (not too advanced but good views) for Sundays' off? Or anyone want me to say "Hi" to anybody already living there?

 I can't wait for a month of peace and quiet and meditation and yoga and soaking!!!  

This took place around 1967. IIRC. The years fly by.

To make the story complete, you have to understand Helmut Deetjen. Grampa Deetjen was a crusty old guy, to say the least. He was known for coming into the tiny Deetjen's dining room, spotting a man with beard or woman with beads and patchouli scent and going ballistic. He would get red faced and yell: "NO HIPPIES!" "GET OUDT",like some pre Arnold Terminator. At one point he put up a "No Hippies" sign. Ed "Guardian" worked there then, an extremely gentle man who gave away little bells. He could never tell someone to leave, so the errant hippie would come in, be seated by Ed, order and sit and enjoy the wonderful ambience. Mozart, Vivaldi or Bach would play in the background and the sun limn the leaves in the front window. Peace

This was taken in July 2002. The Baths were almost done but they were not open for use yet. Our class was taken down for a tour and the question "How many can we get in the big tub" was answered!
I went back for the 40th anniversary celebration in Nov and was able to enjoy them for the first time. The first time I came here was after El Nino in 1998.
