Okay, help me out here ...re: AZ Sec. of State Ken Bennet's Proposal to take Obama off the Nov 2012 Ballot

First of all, I am not very good at politics -- I mean I don't follow all the political news, etc.  But this issue really has me worried, not because of the probable outcome, but because of the thinking of a high political official in Arizona government.

The Arizona Secretary of State (Ken Bennet (R) ) wishes to take Obama off the ballot for Nov. 2012 because he says he does not believbe Obama was born in the USA.

I am 95% certain that this will not happen, (even sen John McCain, (R) says it can't happen), but it's the THINKING of this man (Ken Bennet) that worries me.

Here is an article:

 http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/05/arizona-secretary-of-state-wants-to-see-proof-of-obamas-citizenship/

Here is my comment that I really felt I must make (and please tell me if you think I'm right or wrong -- as I said, I'm not very good at politics, but this just seems wrong to me!) so here is my thinking, and comment:

"You gotta be kidding!! For one thing, this birth certificate thing has been resolved — some time ago.

For another thing, WHAT ABOUT DEMOCRACY and the RIGHT for voters to choose whom they wish to be elected???!!!

Ken Bennet’s tactics are not only crazy, they would be taking away our rights to vote for and elect the person of our choice.! So what happened to democracy?? If we go by Ken Bennet’s insanity, any voter residing in Arizona would not have the RIGHT to vote for Obama, because he would be off the ballot. That would take away our right to vote for him.

Most Americans believe that the “legal right to vote” in our democracy is explicit (not just implicit) in our Constitution and laws. However, our Constitution only provides for non-discrimination in voting on the basis of race, sex, and age in the 15th, 19th and 26th Amendments respectively.

But to take someone OFF the ballot??? That is crazy!! It will not happen.

John McCain (R) Senator from AZ has already stated that this will not happen (Obama taken off the ballot in AZ), and that it cannot be done, WILL NOT be done.

This man, Ken Bennet, is dangerous, in my opinion. To assume that AZ could just eliminate Obama from the Nov. ballot, thus forcing Arizonians to either not vote, or, vote for Romney, is absolutely unAmerican!!!

What Ken Bennet is proposing is to take away the rights of millions of voters. We should be alarmed, VERY alarmed, at this proposal!! Ken Bennet should not be in office!! Don’t you realize what he’s trying to do?? Okay, so it is ridiculous, and won’t happen …but do we really want someone like that in office?? Ken Bennet might as well be Hitler, as far as I’m concerned.

WAKE UP Arizonians!! How can you just smile and nod while some crazy guy proposes to take away our very right to vote for whom we wish??" "

Am I right, wrong, ignorant, or what?  Please tell me your opinions.  This guy (Ken Bennet, (R) AZ Sec. of State ) scares me, for his thinking.

Sorry to talk politics (my most-hated subject), but am I the only one who sees the elephant in the room?

Thanks, I welcome all opinions :)

I agree, totally, with what you write.

The man is a mini-dictator, clearly.

And his attempted action reminds us that in a democracy we must remain well-informed and vigilant every second.

The media overall is not doing its job on reporting these absurdities in an intelligent way, and they are partially responsible for making people like that appear "credible" to some.

This week I get to vote in the recall election in Wisc of the governor and lt. governor. This is how democracy manages to continue - when we have the chance to remove from office those who have behaved outrageously.

And yes, I understand your concern. All Arizona citizens should be deeply offended, whatever their place on the political spectrum.

 Hi Scarlet :)

How have you been?

I'm happy to see that democracy is still alive and well in Wisc.  And really, it is still working all over the country.

Yay!!  \o/

And btw, Ken Bennet now says that he has his "proof", and has apologized for any embarrassment he may have caused the State of AZ.  Still, What was he thinking???!!

Plays well with others

Well, that is good news. But what a jerk.

I imagine he knew all along he would "give in" and just did this as a political ploy to gain attention and votes. Unfortunately, many of our politicians are more cynical and manipulative than we can conceive of.

Yes, we have early voting in Wisc. so I will cast my ballot in the next day or two and avoid long lines or last minute ballot problems.

I do love democracy, even though it is often bought out by the billionaires who can flood the airways with slick ads that are lies.

Love to you,
