So, Nina Wise, is one of the zaniest, quirkiest, and most original performers I've seen. She incorporates body movement and spoken narrative into a truly unique and unusual form. Kind of a mix between dance and theater .... and some kind of wild acid trip... Definitely a cool ride.
Anyhow, in her day and age, I really think that she broke open a whole new ground of performance with the integration of body-process with the spoken word.
The funny thing is, that even though she's out there performing, in front of gobs of people... she's always struck me, as kind of an introvert. She's always seemed, to me, at least, somewhat of a reluctant performer.
Like she's waiting for the shoe to drop, somehow.
Anyhow, she's a great teacher and a sweet human being.
I remember when her book came out... I think I saw it first in the Bodhi Tree, here in Los Angeles... and I remember feeling good and glad to have studied with her. Validated in some strange "I'm worth something by association" way.
We carry on her work, here in Los Angeles... every Friday night... a bunch of us... and I must say, it's cool...
