Very happy to learn of "Price Ridge"

henry glenn – May 23, 2010 – 11:39am

I was unaware of this myself, Henry. I hope to do some exploring of these features this autumn. Steve is personally responsible for the official naming, which I understand is pretty rare.

Of course, the complete description was too extensive for a Wikipedia entry. However, this information is sufficiently important to us all so that I will provide the following quotations from Monterey County Place Names:

Price-Gagarin Trail  This is an old trail (original name unknown to me) shown on the 1921 USGS Lucia Quadrangle, 5 Minute Series, that has been maintained from Esalen Institute (q.v.) to Coast Ridge by way of Price Ridge and Tin Can Ridge. It was named for local resident, Richard Price, co-founder of Esalen, and for his associate, Andrew Gagarin, who kept the trail open (Harper), and the name, Price-Gagarin Trail, has been in use since 1980.
Ref: p.c. JN November 28, 1990, quoting Steve Harper

Price Ridge  Shown but not named on USGS topos, this feature is well-known to hikers (Harper). It is the ridge dividing Buck Creek from Hot Springs Canyon up to Tin Can Ridge. It trends SW from 3237 ft in NH Sec.34 T20S R3E to N side of Hot Springs Canyon at about 800 ft elevation in SEQ Sec.4 T21S R3E. Named for Richard Price (see entry above).

p.s. I assume you know the Andrew Gagarin story. I'm pretty sure it's in Jeff Kripal's book.

i hope this emotional year in remembrance and honor of Dick and Michael brings renewed clarity and focus to the Vision which is Esalen. Now more than ever

Saw and Video Taped Michael last Wed.  (Just a few seconds prior to his speaking; shook his hand great rapport; happy!).  An amazing experience of syncronicity; Met Jeff Kripal in person we had talked on the phone.  Also met some real film makers.  One is being made of "Golf in the Kingdom."  Another of Christ's "missing years."  They hold some sort of comic related symposium (which explains certain energies to me) there and have for 3 years I guess.  Literally have just returned.  Walked in the door.  My ideas are getting out there...I think I have influenced some things. No credit needed.  The silly thing is we were talking about comic books and characters before Michael Murphy walked in and I was pretty well zonked by then and introduced myself as Dr. Strange.

Met Michael Murphy's Son again.  Some deja vue going on big time.  And so much more.  Took no notes so if I write it will be from my memories.  Perhaps a treat elsewhere.

Went to Richard Prices memorial twice behind the round house and Mediated 3-4 times at the round house.

Lightheaded.  Time to rest.  Long drive.
