Thought of going for two days. Didn't attend. Was in Forest though thinking of him and his during. Video taped it. Applied a technique. Farewell George the outer form...your Spirit is everpresent.
Crowd was about 350 or so. Weather was beautiful. Mostly family and friends told stories for about 2 hours. Then there was a reception. Not that many people I knew. So I grabbed a beer at Strawberry Village and took the bus back into town. Rescued a young woman on the bus by walking her to safety at night through the Tenderloin, which may have been the whole reason I was sent on this mission. Who can say for sure about such things?....
I went. And, yes John was there...
I will be lazy here and link you to what I wrote and some photos: George Leonard Memorial.
It was great for me to see so many friends and mentors from way back in my life... more stirring than I imagined it would be.
...I hitched a ride up with Steve. That's me with the tie. (God, I'm a wierd looking dude!)
Thanks for the photos. Was there in spirit.
Totally Committed
I give thanks for unknown blessings already on the way
Scarlet Rose was certainly there in spirit... you can make out her spirit body along the back wall in this photo if you look carefully: http://www.flickr.com/photos/surharper/4406702078/in/set-72157623429161751/
Thanks Steven and John for giving iThou a glimpse into this landmark memorial. We're becoming the elders.... mr. Steven handsome too!
I spent a month learning with George in the early '80s at Esalen, in his energy awareness workshop. Though already an elder- he told us his Esalen stories- he was completely accessible and willing to give.
He and Annie told us they communicated psychically- we didn't believe it. So we would stop her before she got to dinner and ask her what was on the menu. She often knew (very specifically), or she'd say "George just said I wouldn't much like it."
He was an accomplished musician, and played, at my request, "Laura", on the piano, which I shall always remember.
John, I have not seen you in a suit for many years.
...of seeing me in a Savile Row suit. I need a hair cut, don't you think?
I saw you just before that workstudy. We have a deep old friendship.
They played a recording of George at the memorial. He really was accomplished, as you say. Pianist, writer, pilot, and so much more....
John I think your hair looks cool.
My thoughts and some of you all are in John's earlier post:

I am glad to hear your stories. I knew he was an Author, Aikidoist, Pianist, Consciousness Pioneer & Leader, Influencer of the New Age Movement (and probably the Hunger Project) yet with all that he seemed so mellow and human and down to Earth. The very first time I ever was in his presence was what I call a gift while a work scholar. Also my first exposure to Al Huang was as a work scholar. Let's face it Esalen and most of her teachers and participants are all gifts. That one needs a discipline and to practice it seems to be one of the messages I'd like to get and apply.
Kathleen, thanks for the tidbit on his telepathic powers.
And thanks for the photos Steve.
:)
"Goals and contingencies, as I've said, are important. But they exist in the future and the past, beyond the pale of the sensory realm. Practice, the path of mastery, exists only in the present. You see it, hear it, smell it, feel it. To love the plateau is to love the external now, to enjoy the inevitable spurts of progress and the fruits of accomplishment, then serenely to accept the new plateau that waits just beyond them. To love the plateau is to love what is most essential and enduring in your life."

and your Mr Peabody glasses. Nuit St-Georges. Yes, this is a clear memory.
An important book for me. I am grateful for the way he frames this gentle release from striving. This concept flies in the face of perhaps 80% of the messages beamed at people (in North America) in our times.
Thank you, Michael, for bringing this idea into my view again.
Brother David says that heaven will be made from our best memories. ...See you there...
