Fire on the Mountain

3
loves

I returned home from facilitating a meeting in Carmel to a fire in Sycamore Canyon (the road to my house)... and its still burning. Downed PG&E line. Lucky for us we don't have the winds we had last week or I might be hitting you all up for a place to stay. Crews have contained the southside (Rancho Rico) and are working on the north side in Sycamore Canyon (the road to Pfeiffer Beach). Hopefully, we will have containment by tomorrow. Weather forecast is good as far as wind is concerned, although we could have record breaking temperatures tomorrow. I will try to add photo tomorrow...

Way to soon to wrap my mind around another fire... and nature will do what nature will do... and I would be quite happy to have this one out soon.

Sincerely--good luck!

All is calm... the uphill side of the fire was essentially contained for some time by two or three families (women, men, and children) working together to keep it from jumping a dirt road. As is frequently the case, fire crews aren't sure where to go (which is very understandable). Professional and prison crews worked into the night to contain all sides of the fire and are now on watch to make sure there are no flare ups.

...and the updates. Sending wishes for protection.

riding into my appalachian community a decade ago, a horrendous plume of black smoke rose above the mountain. i was president of our volunteer fire department(not the chief), and the amish sawmill was blazing. our volunteer response was remarkable and we all survived the explosion of the mystery amish propane tank. never a danger of the mountain catching fire, but for people's safety. dern

All is quiet... but it is record breaking temperatures here today.
