Back in town

3
loves

I had fun at the track, however came home to get a sad phone call. My friend Bess, whom I have known for 22 years, and who has played an integral part in my growth and spiritual journey, told me that her tumor count was sky high.

She was diagnosed three years ago with stage four pancreatic cancer, a disease that kill most within a few months. She has survived so far and thrived, finishing the Kaiser Half Marathon in San Francisco a month ago ( 13 miles). The day she called she was on her cell phone half way through a 12 mile walk. She has always been an incredible being of light and strength.

I have known for three years that the chances of her long term survival were small ( about 5% of similarly diagnosed make it three years.). She is in my thoughts and always will be.

All healing and health to your friend. Wow to the wondrous video post on the sandman...good lessons about letting the heart and art go when the sea meet his sand drawing.

I am doing my own health and healing week.

A week off for Easter/Spring break! hurrah....girls home, fun with them.

enjoy

And sometimes it is the people we love the most are dealing with such diagnosis. My heart and best wishes go out  to you and your friend. My brother Romey had the same diagnosis. Worst thing in the world when they hand out the prognosis to someone you love.

I will light a candle for both of you.

...will send my best wishes.

Remembering my daddy's Chicagoland political wisdom:
"It happens to the best of us. Then it happens to the rest of us."

is an enduring part of your journey and I'm guessing will continue, despite Bess' condition. Like you I have either lost, or had friends coping with severe illness recently. My heart goes out to you.

I was fortunate to spend most of her last two weeks with her, as I and several of her friends stayed with her throughout hospice.  She passed quickly.  We had a delayed internment, in Oct, and I had the experience of going to two services in two days, as another friend died the week before Bess' internment.  I am not really sure what burial of ashes is, but I guess internment.  This year four friends died, two of them I had known twenty and thirty years respectively.  Another was a suicide after a very tragic accident that left him quite disabled, and the last had a heart attack at fifty.

It was a very sad time, and I am quite at peace now with events. I won't forget any of them.  The old friends you always remember, the new ones not so.    Life goes on, my dog loves me.  It could be worse.
