Fast, cleanse, whatever you wanna call it...

loves

Hey everyone!

I'm doing a two week cleanse up until the anniversary of the passing of my father. It's a tradition I started to honor death and rebirth every since he passed away. This year I'm doing vegetarian, some dairy (we all need our calcium). I'm looking for quick meal, or recipe suggestions if you have any : )

Mind you, I'm a broke/short on time college student so quick meals would do the trick!

Would love some suggestions!

Best and blessings,

Jasmine

Jasmine, when I was living at Esalen, some of my pals there got into the apple cleanse -- eating nothing but apples for days. I didn't have the guts for that myself.

When I was first at Esalen, lots of people did the liver flush cleanse -- they'd go to the kitchen and see John the cook to get their liver  flush mix, wheat grass juice and rescue remedy under their tongues -- all at the same time.  I did try the wheat grass juice and the rescue remedy. I don't remember whether I did the liver flush too. If I did, I didn't stop eating other things.

If you are going to do a really serious cleanse, I hope you have first done a serious enema or colonic first, to get the poisons out of your intestines. How serious do you want to get with this?

and I am sure your dad will watch over you during this. Beautiful spirit.

My Tibetan doctor has a very simple recipe: Just cook vegetables, and eat the broth of vegetables too. So I use Ghee first with herbs, then I add the vegetables, then water and a little bit of vegetable broth. I finally (and that is the dairy choice) add some sour cream but you could replace this with a non-dairy alternative. Anything raw usually is bad for the liver so I personally stay away from raw food such as fruit and salad, juices. Avoid alcohol and coffee.

I'm not doing anything tooooo serious. I just want to intentionally put healthier foods into my body and be more conscious. I have been eatings lots of raw fruits, why is that bad for your liver? I made stuffed peppers the other night with rice (my mom's recipe).

I've been eating yogurt, berries, granola, and drinking lots of juices and purees. : ) I'm trying to stay away from processed, preservative foods and meet. My stomach has been feeling much better already. I'm planning on making a flat bread vegetarian pizza soon also.

I hardly ever drink coffee, and haven't had any alcohol. The vegetable broth sounds reeeaaaallly good. Vegetable broth noodle soup!! mmm..

I think Yogananda recommends fasting on fresh squeezed orange juice a day a week...

An old but good medical suggestion: "The solution to pollution is dilution." Lots of water and plenty of dietary fiber. And, eat enough varied food to provide fuel for the brain.

Might be an interesting trip... Would see lots of vegetables. lol

And yes, my spirit has been feeling so alive and awake because of a healthy diet. I want to keep this going even after the time frame i placed on it. I'm drinking lots of juice purees and varied fruits, vegetables, and fibers. It's very exciting to figure out alternate ways to eat, and that I am capable of making good food!

Thanks for the tips!

as in all eight amino acids.  As in soybeans, or rice combined with split peas or other legume.  Then you get the same protein value as you would with red meat.  Tofu is great.  Oh, you most likely know all of this already :(

Oh well, i am NOT a nutritionist, anyway.

i did go vegetarian, on a whim, for four years.  Then, all of a sudden, also on a whim, i went back to red meat -- bought three steaks, cooked them rare, and my two dogs that i had at the time and i each feasted on red meat. So then my vegetarian days were over, after four years.

This is not really about that, but about how you fast/cleanse each year at this time.  What a great thing to do, in memory of your father, and for any reason!

Now i am thinking of doing the same.  You have inspired me!

And i am remembering Lent, which was part of my Episcopalian upbringing, when we gave up something we really loved for eight (?) weeks (i think it was eight weeks).

Hmmmmm...

wonderful grain, complete proteins, cooks in 15 minutes, goes well with everything. Love it!!!! And if you get the purple quinoa and mix a bit of that in with a lot of white quinoa it looks more inviting.

Just be sure to rinse it in several waters first, 'cuz otherwise it can sometimes taste a bit bitter -- as long as it is really well rinsed though it won't tast bitter.

At Whole Foods, if you buy a bag of it in their 365 house brand, it is really cheap and really good.

So that plus fresh veggies and fruits, a little milk and eggs and cheese (or not) and you are good to go with a healthy clean balanced diet. And no animals killed or harmed in the process.

 lol

I like organic, a lot. How about chopped apples and other fruits. Vegetables for lunch ....Oppps someone else mentioned that.

two leafs of spinach daily ...Auruvedic is an answer.  I'm on the Indian food diet what a way to go...yum.

Once when I did yoga a lot the teacher recommended vegies over fruit...but once I got down to 150 pounds (yes I almost died) and I'm at 240 #'s now -- I just eat whatever I like or is handy.  But I am willing to try some sort of diet.  I will probably do a bunch of juciing this week.

I think a lifelong regimen is better than trying every diet.  (Personally I'm fond of the ice cream diet.)

The good thing is the local co-op will help me though it costs a bit more the quality is there daily.  Quizno's nearly killed me a month or two ago so I don't go ther anymore.  And Carl's Jr. changed their oil so it's out too.

I stop doing "bad food" when I notice more mucas.  I'm having some fun with MONA.VIE.  (Acai Berry juice).

I do a lot of Avocados.  No read meat or pork at all ever.  (It pollutes my medulla).

Made bacon for my brat up in Seattle but she eats far far less meat than I do (I like chicken and type O blood is my excuse) but I do plan to be on a strict vegetarian asap.  And maybe a vegan.  (Then you'd love me, right?)

Plus I must exercise.

I can attest the water and breathatarian diets don't work for me.

I think raw will be an experiment this summer.

I feel blessed by the bountiful food that is.

By the time we all finish telling you what we eat, your two weeks will be up. LOL
