Putting my ego aside, I'm reaching out to anyone at Esalen who can possibly guest me for a few days of December 28th through the 31st..I recently moved up to San Francisco for school and the past few months have been a struggle to survive with no chance of reflecting. I just finished my first semester and finally have some time off from work and a few days at Esalen would really help me out to transition into the new year.
I'm in desparate need of Esalen's nurturing spirit and love. Your kindness will greatly be appreciated.
Lots of love,
Jasmine
it is where our spirits fly that nurtures the soul and not physically being there.
If not now, when?

I'll hold you up to that offer some day.. Seriously!
: )
Thanks Kristy..
I think I might need to stock up on my snow gear...
I've lived in the bay area my whole life. lol
Hi Jasmine,
You can carpool with me to Esalen on the 24th, if you'd like. And we can carpool to Aspen one day, too. :-)
I wish you all Happy Holidays, Monika
Jasmine,
I wish you good luck in getting guested.
I know how important a few days on the property can be. The land itself has such energy and healing. Aside from the people. I always felt like I was resting on a giant quartz crystal when I was there. What power. No wonder the Essalen shamens liked that land. It's quite unique.
And then there are those hot springs.
Not that some time with Weems in Aspen would be anything but wonderful. But right now it's darn cold in Weems country.
At 4 PM here today, it was -27 degrees with wind chill, and then it is dropping much lower tonight.
Someone told me that people who live in a cold area like this have thicker blood. Very interesting.
hugs,
Happy trails, d.

-27!!! Oh my god. My toes would fall off. lol
Thank you so much for your wishes. Your comment just rushes my mind with memories. : )
Monika, thanks for the offer but the 24th and 25th are reserved for family time lol. The time I have off of work after that though is the 28th-31st. But carpooling to Aspen sounds grand! lol
Blessings to all,
Jasmine
Jasmine, you do need to wear boots!
I walked one and a half blocks to see the Christmas Pageant at the Unitarian church, and I was bundled in a silk turtleneck sweater (for insulation), 3 wool turtleneck sweaters, a down vest, a long down coat, 2 sets of legwarmers, 2 pairs of wool socks, a wool hat, a wool earmuffler, a cashmere scarf wrapped 3 times around my face, and the down-filled hood on the coat was pulled up over my eyes. And that was just to go 1 and 1/2 blocks. Any further than that I would not have walked -- I was a block of ice when I get to church as it was. (My blood clearly has not yet gotten "thick" enough for the winter here.) And I haven't even told you about the drifts of snow piled up higher than my head along the edge of the street -- we got about 14 inches in one day a couple of days ago. This is after the snow plows have cleared the city streets.
So do enjoy Californa warmth, my dear.
Happy trails, d.
Jasmine, by the way I forgot to say --- good for you for putting out there exactly what you need.
Happy trails, d.
That sounds exciting lol. I always loved snow growing up, but our trips to tahoe are nothing compared to that. My family grew up in Armenia, and had to walk miles to school every morning in the winter (my mother's stories never end). I guess pictures of snow are so much more appealing than hearing that. haha. But I think I'm up for it!! I inhereted Armenia blood I think I can do it! haha.
Half of my blood came from Ostfrisland (Oostfreesland or East Frisia) -- the very northwest tip of what is now Germany -- on the cold North Sea. And I still freeze!!! Maybe my southern French blood watered that down.
(But it is pretty when the sun glitters on (clean) white snow so cold that it crunches underfoot when you walk on it.)
I suspect Weems-country is much nicer than here. Ice and snow are more appealing in the open countryside or in mountains. And when you are skiing.
Although someone in my building told me that she used her cross-country skis yesterday to walk down to the Whole Foods store (in the middle of the city). Ah, winter tales.
Happy trails, d.
It's not so much the thickness of the blood (whatever that means!). It's the way you get it to move through the system and heat you up. We've got lots of tricks for that. And we also layer very carefully. NEVER wear cotton in the cold, for example.
Right now it is quite cold, but the snow is just wonderful. A bit dangerous in spots. We avalanche control the areas within the ski area boundaries, but we've already lost a fine man to an avalanche in the out of bounds areas. The mountains are beautiful and cruel. Sometimes they say yes, and sometimes they say no.
But being in them is always home for me.

I don't know. That was what a native Wisconsonite friend told me. I know my (ex) mother-in-law down in Florida used to say her blood was "too thin" from being used to Florida heat to come visit us in Ontario Canada in the winter. Maybe it's not meant to be literal. Anyone know about "thick" and "thin" blood based on climate?
Yes, never wear cotton outdoors in a cold winter.
Weems it sounds like you live close to the edge (so to speak). We don't get avalanches here, just bitter prairie winds.
Happy trails, d.
I don't think it's literal. I think it's just meant to be used as if you've grown up in harsh weather, you have thick blood, meaning you can handle a lot of shit. Thin blood meaning you can't. That's what I've always thought. My boyfriend is back east visiting home for the holidays. Just talked to him, 6 degrees out and the sky is sparkling with pixie dust. : ) I think that's a beautiful image.
Jasmine, that might be thick skin. Like an armadillo--lol
I've always heard that thick blood helps you weather the cold better, and thin blood doesn't. It still doesn't make much sense, but that definitely is the expression.
And we're a bit separated from the big avalanches. None of them endanger settlements. Just wayward skiers and hikers in the back country (and occasionally--but rarely-- in the ski areas
But who cares about all of that when the sky is sparkling with pixie dust!!!??

Did you get guested- if not is there a way we collectively can arrange it- How does one guest a person- Can the powers that be get in contact or read your posting and pass it on so Jasmine can have a couole of days there- I am waiting to hear what transpires- I think it is a great idea like Donna wrote that you have asked....
I actually have been guested! I was able to contact one of my friends at Esalen whom was an assistance during the work scholar month I did. He offered to guest me for a couple days this coming week : ) Thank you so much for your interest and trying to help out. I am truly blessed to be able to keep in contact with loving people thanks to Ithou.
Much love and blessings.
I really admire you for doing that- You have made a new woman out of me- I was always afraid to ask- always acting as if I could take care of myself- Now in a foot and mouth sort of way if some people can send me to Shutters on the Beach for a week in April with all spa treatments thrown in and room service- my breakfast served about 10ish and some spending money at Nicole Farhi and Hmmmm some more money for a shopping trip to Fred Segal and I need to hire a car- so throw in some gas money- and then when I am nice and rested I'd like to go to Ireland for two months- a cottage by the Burren and all expenses paid. I like this. I like being able to ask ohhh I also want my teeth veneered (my dentist )he said $6,000 for the four teeth- There is nothing wrong with my teeth but the canine is lonely (meaning its companion canine never came through so it is like a slight snaggle tooth and so to make it look okay veneers on the corresponding teeth were suggested-
I really need my hair done too while I am at it........Now I will just sit and wait while the money pours in from the universe.
Matthew 21:22
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
p.s.
I also wouldn't mind a trip to Ireland...lol
The check's in the mail Anjela!
And, Jasmine, I'm glad it worked out. That's wonderful.
My only question: When did "guest" become a verb? jejejeje
Weems
I am so very glad for you. You go girl.
Happy trails, d.
Thank you all! I am very excited!
I will send you a ticket to Ireland- no, two tickets so you can have some one amazing to share it with.
