This was the amazing event that happened on my day...

I came out of class today and saw that tens of people were gathered in a massive circle in the quad. Curious, I had to go and see what was going on. In the center of the lawn was a beautiful hawk, in all its mightyness. It had just tackled a seagull out of the air and onto the ground, who was now it's lunch. Luckily I had my camera with me, and hopefully without disturbing it too much I got some great photos. Enjoy!

After he took off, I was walking towards my apartment and I looked up in the sky and saw him hovering over me in floating in the sky... It was truly a gift.

Blessings and Peace,

Jasmine

I love the way the light shines through the feathers in the penultimate photo.

Thanks for letting us be there too!

Happy trails, D.

The Hawk

This morning
         the hawk
                   rose up
                             out of the meadows  browse

and swung over the lake
         it settled
                   on the small black dome
                             of a dead pine,

alert as an admiral,
         its profile
                   distinguished with sideburns
                             the color of smoke,

and I said: remember
         this is not something
of the red fire, this is

                           heavens fistful

of death and destruction,
         and the hawk hooked
                   one exquisite foot

                           onto a last twig

to look deeper
         into the yellow reeds
along the edges of the water
                             and I said: remember

the tree,  the cave
         the white lily of resurrection
and thats when it simply lifted

                          its golden feet and floated

into the wind, belly-first,

and then it cruised along the lake—
all the time its eyes fastened
                             harder than love on some

unimportant rustling in the
         yellow reedsand then it
seemed to crouch high in the air, and then it
turned into a white blade, which fell.

[p.s. I once had a crush on a woman whose nickname was "death and destruction." -jc]
