"Skywatchers across the world are in for a celestial treat Monday night as two of the brightest naked-eye planets, Venus and Jupiter, join a thin crescent moon to create a brief "unhappy face" in the sky"

Unfortunately I'm all fogged in over in the city, but last night was clear and I saw them get pretty close. It's a beautiful site, I hope you all get a chance to see them snuggle together.
Love,
Jasmine
thanks jasmine. hope to see a picture or hear a report
Thanks though, it's fun.
Maybe somebody in Big Sur...
I guess there was a right side up smiley face in Asia. Aren't those planets clever to do that?!!

They are very humorous. I saw them the night before and it was spectacular. The most amazing glow I have ever seen. A couple years ago I saw venus conjuct with the moon at Yosemite, but having all three of them together was amazing.
when the moon is in the seventh house, and jupiter aligns with mars, then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars
1. I remember walking by the ocean one summer when Mars was so close that there was a glow on the water, like a moonglow, from it.
2. Also, a few years back there was a comet in the northwestern ski that was a lovely green smudge. It planted itself for about two months outside my bedroom window. I would wake up in the middle of the night, and feel wonderful comfort from it. It became like a dear friend. I wish I could remember it's name.Weems
While I was at Esalen last summer, I would see Venus setting every night and it would have a glow on the water itself. It was very magical, especially when it was a new moon, Venus would be the brightest thing in the sky. Practically lighting up Esalen.
Henry, very poetic..I like.
Henry's line is from the song Aquarius from the Broadway play Hair. The play was good (breakthrough at the time), the movie did not live up to the play. Here though is a clip from the movie, "When the moon is in the seventh house, and jupiter aligns with mars, then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars."
Thanks Henry for the reminder... this was an often played albumn of mine at the time.
And also on iThou as audio at: http://www.ithou.org/node/1455
Hair is having renewed growth at the Public Theater.

Happy trails, D.
I totally know this song! I recognized it once the chorus kicked it. I think I'm going to go rent this movie. LOL
Thanks Steve! What powerful pipes she has...
Freedom for hippies!!!!
We watch the night sky and often keep track of the movements of the planets... Here is what it looked like from Big Sur a few nights ago...
It's beautiful, steve. Thank you for sharing the image.
I hear that the new 'Hair' is the waxed version.
Beautiful pic Steve..
girl on the horse- though I missed all of this in rural Ireland ....I think it would have been fun to have dressed with flowers and popped pills and danced naked in parks and not have to shower and have sex with anything that moved and never work and just waste my entire 20s. But now what would I be- Hmmm probably be working in a government job:) hah hah
I took my high school sweetheart to see Hair at the Schubert Theater in Chicago. I drove my father's Avanti into the Loop. I wore a blue blazer and grey slacks. Frances wore a short black dress. She had great legs.
I have seen it all... Old Vic, Pinter (boring), Shakespeare in Regents Park, Chorus Line, Public Theater, Arthur Miller, Vivian Beaumont, Jules Pfeiffer at A.C.T. It was the best production, ever...besides Frances' legs, of course.
The cast walked up the center section of the stalls on the arm rests, holding hands for balance.
And, by the way, being a hippie was mostly a pain in the butt.
more of Francis or just the legs tee hee I think we were trying to Google Francis a whie back to see if she were still a nubile virgin- or am I imagining that?
Francis sounds very lovely- or her legs do-
venus and jupiter are still dancing. gorgeous. moon has temporarily left the building. love to iThou
largest full moon of the year on the rise
I saw it, Henry. Coming back from my walk tonight, turned east and went, like...WOW!
Peaking through the clouds for me. Very beautiful.
The moonlight is just flooding the mountains, and it lights up the snow as well. It's the kind of moon that reflects in the snow so much that you almost need shades! It's like daylight. Kinda makes me want to howl!

But nobody should need to go to school in the middle of the night:-)
I can't wait until I am in Big Sur next week again.
