Does anyone here have any personal experience growing African Violets? I purchased a baby plant and looked online for tips but so far nothing seems to be helping it grow and it's been about a month now.
I Would appreciate some tips :)
Thanks,
Jasmine
I have several that I have had for years. They are easy to grow as long as you pay attention to requirements. But they don't grow quickly into larger plants like some others do -- which is a plus if you have a small space. They tend to bloom in winter, at least here.
Don't put them in a southern window, as that would be too much light. They are one of the plants (like begonias) that rot easily, so be careful when you water them and don't leave them sitting in water. Feel the top of the soil in the pot before you water, to be sure the plant really does need water -- overwatering will rot the plant.
Quickly remove any leaves that die, and the flowers as soon as they start drying up. When you water them, avoid getting water on their leaves.
They don't like to be crowded, and don't like things touching them so give them their space. They particularly don't like their leaves to be touching those of another African Violet.
They need indirect or northern light, ideally. Although, depending on how far north you live, they might like to be in a western-facing or eastern-facing window. I move mine around from season to season, to meet their light requirements.
They want to be warm. They can be sprayed lightly with water, if the air in the room gets really dry.
Buy proper African Violet food and follow the directions.
And be patient with them. Remember, they are not large plants.
Love them!!!!!!!

I have heard so many different directions, and nothing gave me those tips. Thanks a lot, I think I've been over watering so hopefully it might get better. Thanks again!
Growth in process.

The right amount of water, light, food -- in that order of importance.
Sometimes people try to be too kind to their plants, and kill them by giving them too much.
love to you, dear one.
