Obama 08: Paving a New Path

Obama 08
Paving a new path of CHANGE + BELIEF + HOPE

“HOPE is not blind optimism.
It is not ignoring the enormity of the task ahead
or the roadblocks that stand in our path.
It is not sitting on the sidelines or shirking from a fight.
Hope is that thing inside us that insists,
despite all evidence to the contrary,
that something better awaits us
if we have the courage
to reach for it,
to work for it,
and to fight for it”
~ Barack Obama

Some said it could have never come this far.
Some said it was impossible.
Some said it could not make a difference, in one voice.
Some have lost HOPE…in their own voice.
Then, there are others who refused such improbability and defeat.
Who knew no other way but to take a stance—for change, for hope, for the greater good.
Who said we could no longer settle on a path of destruction and degradation.
Who believe--it matters--to the deepest core of our own humanity.

It would have never come this far, in this journey, without the echoing voices of millions.
The collective footprints + handprints of ordinary people.
Ordinary people--like you…like me.
Who are “paving” this path for a new direction in the coordinates of our nation’s compass.

Things you can do…to give a helping hand: 22 days and counting (to date)
~ Volunteer @ your local Obama Field Office or Obama Online: in any capacity
~ Participate in a local Obama Event: build community
~ Share your “voice” with others: for change + for hope
~ Donate: within your means, in collective support by millions (yes, even $10 - $25+, will help)
~ Offerings: Offer your skills, talent, creativity, compassion, passion: be a part of this campaign to heal our nation and global community

Love it!

Thanks.

Been rather pessimistic lately. The office laser printer (not mine) shredded my business brochures. Heard that a neighbor in the building I live in was found dead today. Lost the neighbor at the end of the hall 2 months ago in the same way. Sky is overcast grey....

And it's Columbus Day, another day of darkness in the more than 500-year-old  colonization of native peoples of the Americas.

And then I read that my second favorite economist and favorite economics writer won the Noble Prize today. Hooray for Krugman!!

And then I come to iThou and find YogiGypsi's posting. And I remember that inclusive audience at the Democratic convention.

And hope returns, like a beloved bird that comes back after seeming to have abandoned one.

Thanks again!!!! Rock on, YogiGypsi...

 Happy trails, D.

Colin Powell, on Barack Obama:                                                                                                                                                                                “I watched Mr. Obama…and, he displayed a steadiness, an intellectual curiosity, a depth of knowledge and an approach to looking at problems like this and picking a vice president that, I think, is ready to be president on day one.  And also, in not just jumping in and changing every day, but showing intellectual vigor.  I think that he has a definitive way of doing business that would serve us well”.  “Mr. Obama, at the same time, has given us a more inclusive, broader reach into the needs and aspirations of our people. He's crossing lines--ethnic lines, racial lines, generational lines.  He's thinking about all villages have values, all towns have values, not just small towns have values”.  “I think we need a transformational figure.  I think--we need a president who is a generational change.  And that's why I'm supporting Barack Obama”.

In case you missed the interview on Meet the Press: absolutely worth watching (on presidential election topic, approx. 20 minutes, from start of interview w/Tom Brokaw):                                                         http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/27265729#27265729

It speaks for itself.  And, resonates and echoes why so many have been part of paving this path to affirm Barack Obama’s leadership to take us into a different direction of CHANGE + HOPE, in the deep ache--to heal and to restore our nation and our global community.

Good interview. It's good to watch the whole interview, not just the portion where Powell endorses Obama.

Happy trails, D.

Just not for them. I guess I see through  the political BS on the way to power. Who wouldn't like to find themselves in the White House. They will tell you anything to get over the threshold. What turned me neutral  were the source of these people's most ardent admirers. The antichrists (and that's a joke) but Oprah Winfrey and the Kennedys. I am not anti-Kennedy but do know as an Irish woman how they courted the Irish for no reason but to attain higher political office.

I am open to seeing what happens.  I see so many people who feel THEIR children will by some miracle have full medical insurance and their aged parents will have homes and medicare and the industrial workers will have jobs and industry & manufacturing  will be brought back to the United States. None of this is going to happen. Right now we (at my store) are paying a premium to have goods made in China. Decent goods for a decent price. Same in India  and same in Mexico and in Italy and Thailand.  Whenever we buy goods in America we wait for three to six months to have some items hand made and delivered. I am saying I don't know how he can bring industry back to America and who is going to pay the price for American made goods and how are workers going to live on the same 'wages' that people in other countries live on. How will they pay their mortgages. How wil they pay insurance. I don't see anyone talking about this. Everyone wants to believe in the power of words.

I have low cost insurance $1000 @ month. When I first started it it was low cost insurance $400@ month.  How is he going to change that. I think politicians are misleading people. If you want to be in some fairyland then be there but it isn't going to happen. If it happened it would jeopardize every Wal Mart, every Target, every Department store.

I think it is lovely to think that a grand orator's words resonate but the vessel is empty. That's why you hear it so loudly.

All that is required for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing.

The conservative business magazine, The Economist, has just endorsed Obama for president.

"America should take a chance and make Barack Obama the next leader of the free world....The Economist does not have a vote, but if it did, it would cast it for Mr Obama. We do so wholeheartedly: the Democratic candidate has clearly shown that he offers the better chance of restoring America’s self-confidence..."

And then there is John Nichols writing on this in The Nation: http://www.thenation.com/blogs/thebeat/378565

"This writer has never taken particularly seriously the suggestion of Republican presidential candidate John McCain and his surrealist running-mate Sarah Palin that Democrat Barack Obama seeks to roll a political Trojan Horse full of socialist ideas and radical friends into the Oval Office.

In fact, as someone who met Obama a dozen years ago and has interviewed the man and written about him with some frequency, I have failed to detect the tell-tale signs of the secret socialist.

But... you never know.

Maybe Obama has pulled one over on all of us -- a Manchurian candidate move on the most monumental order.

What could settle the question?

What sign? What signal?

Gee, I don't know, how about a "wholeheartedly" enthusiastic endorsement of the Democratic nominee for president by the journal of monied elites who prefer not to be lied to: The Economist..."

Happy trails, D.
