Listen…
Listen closely.
Listen deeply.
Then, listen to your own voice…in it.
Be a part of the CHANGE.
For the higher good of our nation,
our global community,
our humanity.

Thanks.
And while we are on the subject, here is a link to Hillary Clinton's great speech http://www.barackobama.com/tv/index.php?bcpid=900881681&bclid=900480414&bctid=1764090280
Happy trails, D.
...begin to purge the federal government of a near-decade of criminality.
Of course, there were other great speeches at the Convention:
And, for some of us, there have been other political heros:
being Clean for Gene. Lovely portrait, thank you.
Eugene McCarthy. Now there was a class act and great man.
And then there was Mcgovern, too. Another great one.
And if Paul Wellstone's plane hadn't crashed....
And Bobby--my all-time favorite. What a diffferent world we would be living in if we had been able to keep Bobby. He learned so much when he visited the Deep South and saw how some poor blacks were living. His heart Chakra went vavooom! And opened right up. And Bobby would have been a ruthless politician -- for good causes. Which was what we needed (need). Competence, committment, and compassion.
sigh...
missing bobby....
Happy trails, D.
Yes We Can… The “We” Campaign--Eco Footprints and Handprints
And…Nobel Peace Prize Laureate + former Vice President, Al Gore, echoed some words of great importance at the DNC in paving the path ahead for sustainability, ecological balance, and environmental protection.

Let's all get political!
The New York Times just reported the John McCain cancelled a previously scheduled interview with Larry King in order to punish CNN for this interview.
YogiGypsi , great post. thanks for those links
And John, thanks to you too. I hadn't realized anyone would equate being commander in chief of alaska nat'l guard with having "foreign policy" experience. what a hoot!
This may turn out to be quite an entertaining pressie campaign as things heat up. and I am not talkin g global warming.
YogiGysi, I love the 350 site. and the wecansolveit, too.
bring on those great links! I love it!
Happy trails, D.
From yesterdays' NY times:
"Shortly after becoming mayor, former city officials and Wasilla residents said, Ms. Palin approached the town librarian about the possibility of banning some books, though she never followed through and it was unclear which books or passages were in question.
Ann Kilkenny, a Democrat who said she attended every City Council meeting in Ms. Palin’s first year in office, said Ms. Palin brought up the idea of banning some books at one meeting. “They were somehow morally or socially objectionable to her,” Ms. Kilkenny said.
The librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, pledged to “resist all efforts at censorship,” Ms. Kilkenny recalled. Ms. Palin fired Ms. Emmons shortly after taking office but changed course after residents made a strong show of support. Ms. Emmons, who left her job and Wasilla a couple of years later, declined to comment for this article."

Obama's speech, and many of the others were amazing..I was moved by their passion for change.,
John, the video you posted just reinforced my idea that all I've heard from republicans from this election are a bunch of empty, pointless comments..
Thanks, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It's funny what Republican (and Democratic) pundits say when they think nobody's watching. Today, John McCain's former campaign chief Mike Murphy and former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan were caught on tape after an NBC interview. They shared their real thoughts on McCain's judgment in selecting Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate.
Instead of the "media circus" we are getting it is too bad as a nation we can't have a more honest and open political discourse...
TRANSCRIPT:
Mike Murphy, former McCain advisor: You know, because I come out of the blue swing state governor work. Engler, Whitman, Thompson, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush. And these guys, this is all like how you want to (inaudible) this race. You know, just run it up. And it's not gonna work.
Peggy Noonan, former Reagan speechwriter: It's over.
Murphy: Still, McCain can give a version of the Lieberman speech to do himself some good.
NBC's Chuck Todd: Don't you think the Palin pick was insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson, too (inaudible)
Noonan: I saw Kay this morning.
Murphy: They're all bummed out.
Todd: I mean, is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?
Noonan: The most qualified? No. I think they went for this, excuse me, political [B.S.] about narratives and (inaudible) the picture.
Murphy: I totally agree.
Noonan: Every time the Republicans do that because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at and they blow it.
Murphy: You know what's really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism and this is cynical.
Todd: And as you called it, gimmicky.
Thanks Steve. Forwarded this to some political friends.
John Gelb - Yes interesting. And I saw last night online, just as members of Congress will "amend their remarks", so too did Peggy Noonan immediately amend her remarks, also indicating that their entire conversation was "off the record" and yet someone, somehow, uploaded the transcript to the web. You gotta love the web!

Gloria Steinham's articulate, as always, and well worth reading, article in the LA Times -- on Palin:
Palin: wrong woman, wrong message
Happy trails, D.
I really enjoyed reading that article, D. It was very well written I believe it states the opinion of many of my male and female friends.
When I heard about McCain's pick for VP my first reaction was, "if he thinks he will win over Hillary's votes just because he chose a woman, than he's obviouly missing the POINT!"
Thanks for posting that.
Jasmine
Hey Jasmine,
Glad you liked that. You can't get any better than Gloria Steinham for clear seeing and articulate, intelligient expression. Gloria's been my "hero" since the early '70s.
Happy trails, D.
Marshall McLuhan got some things right... or at least worth paying attention to.
Take a look at this link... the history of political advertisements on TV:
Although I probably saw photos of McLuhan at the time, I don't think I ever saw him speak. He got a lot right! And in many ways he was the primary influence on the Boomer mind.
This article talks about his inability in the end to communicate. It also talks about other things I hadn't seen written elsewhere. I had recently read this article. I thought it was interesting.

He was astute and a voice of reason, calling us to consider what we see, hear, believe.
If not now, when?

Clinton and Palin together!
Check out the video on this:http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/09/sarah-palin-snl.html
Steven...
That was a GREAT clip from Saturday Night Live. Thanks for posting it!
Ahcwk! (To quote some Sunday papers comic or other)
Great SNL video.
I needed that after getting home from a weekend of Tibetan Buddhist lamas, retreat and empowerment -- peace, love, no rock and roll ( and being threatened with "vajra hell" if you break any vows ) -- and reading John's breaking news about Wall Street, banks , etc. What a shock to the system (mine, and theirs too).
goddess bless Fey and Poehler for bringing a good guffaw to the lower chakras.
great big sighhhhhh..........
Steve, thank you thank, you thank you.
Hey, you guys and gals are all such wonderful resources!!!!!
Happy trails, D.
Thanks also sfor the McLuhan video.
I read him back in the -- what ? 60s? And was amazed. I had friends who were journalism majors then in university who were blown away by him, so I read him.
I watch this prophet now, in 2008, and am still impressed. And I want to go back and reread his work.
Happy trails, D.
