I have posted a couple more stories about the early days on my Blog
Thanks.
Where did you learn to race bikes? What is the bike you're on in the photo?
I know I should be a more spiritual person, but to my way of thinkin', Valentino Rossi rules the universe!!!! :)

That bike is a 636 Kawasaki. I currently race an SV650. I started doing track days twenty years ago with Reggie Pridmore, a 3 time AMA champ, and eventually ended up as an instructor with his organization. I currently instruct with a couple of different groups.
Racing is fun. It can be a profoundly spiritual experience, it is one of the only times that I have experience time as a dynamically changing event, that seems to suddenly slow down at peak moments. I am sure you have experienced the same thing skiing.
Maybe I should go take your training. Is Pridmore the Smooth Master?
I love the focus you're referring to. The most vivid for me was a downhill I ran when I was about 16. I still remember every little bump, the weather, the snow conditions, the clarity. It was one of those days where there were no other racers--just me and the hill and the snow and the speed. Time was completely irrelevant--just the hanging onto the line on the course. (And the big air was really fun!)

Reggie Pridmore runs CLASS, which teaches road riders safety and track skills. I recommend it to everyone who wants to start riding on the track.
Jason Pridmore runs STAR, a much more race oriented program (he is reg's son) for more advanced riders.
I instruct now with Keigwins, a Northern Ca outfit that puts on trackdays and schools.
You pretty much described the feeling I get, where everything is suddenly slowed down and very real and imminent.

Fun stuff, Buzz
