karma kitty

Karma Longfur adopted me in September, bringing along oodles and oodles of warmth and joy. He's my man. Saturday afternoon he started looking lethargic, and we took him to the ER on Sunday. He's had an urethral obstruction which has been cleared, but he is not responding so well to treatment. Please send him all the healing energy you've got to give. We will assess his situation this afternoon and make the call . . .
purrrrrr.

I lit a candle for Karma Kitty... Our cat had the same thing and did survive. He had to go on a special diet, but he lived to 17 years.
Prayers for fast healing!

Steve is right. If you catch it soon there's an excellent prospect of recovery. If Mr. Kitty isn't doing well, a kidney infection is a possibility, which would require a course of antibiotics and what's called k/d diet. Also, vitamins can give him a boost, including B complex, especially B-12. Subcutaneous infusions of liquids including vitamins can be administered at home, if you can handle needles. Also, scratching, petting and lap time help a lot. Keep us posted.
Lots of Love, -john

well, we are giving him one more night at the ER. Just this afternoon his kidney function seemed to head in the right direction. . . from 10 to 9. Normal range is between 1 and 2. He has a long way to go but they say that sometimes just getting it to start is the hardest part- it may slide easily into range over night.

I spent an hour with him today and he seems pretty down. He didn't want to stay in my lap more than a minute or so. I just laid hands on him and mirrored him as best I could.

Garrett, my oncologist, happened to call today and suggested that as soon as he can get the cathetar out he could supply me with all we need to keep fluids in him at home. Yet another quirky perk of having cancer.

thanks for your prayers. more as I know it. off to get some sleep!

love,

natalia

my heartfelt prayers for your man!

The sun is shining today, and what a difference a day makes. I spent some time with Mr. karma kitty today putting some energy into his poor little taxed kidneys. The little guy was 'peeing like a race horse' today. the fist good sign. The took checked his levels this evening and miracle upon miracles his creatanine was down from 9 to 2 (which is in the normal range)!!! That's my little feller. So we left him at the vet tonight with the catheter in - but no IV fluids. Hopefully he will come home tomorrow. Thanks for your continued prayers!

I myself go in for a little IV treatment tomorrow. We sure do know how to have a good time in this household.

much love,
nat

We are all happy here with the news. Lieutenant Colonel Ditto, who is a former F-14 (Tomcat) pilot, has been pestering me all day to find out how Mr. Karma Kitty was doing. Ditto claims he is a distant relative of Karma. I had to break out a reserve can of tuna to shut Ditto up.

Ditto sends you his best wishes for your "little IV treatment" tomorrow.
Hugs. -j

That is some powerful JuJu. We are all looking forward to Karma Kitty's return to the homestead. Pikaboo, Aiko and Beatrix Kitto are in the circle too. We're all wishing your man cat a warm welcome home.

so happy about karma kitty. busy day here and yet thought about ya'll multiple times, sending prayers and energy your way. isn't it great we're not alone, no matter what? (or course, on the other hand, we're alone!) :-)

love and blessings to both of you nat.

So good to hear. Like I said earlier our cat did a very similar thing... took it right up to the edge, two or three days on IV and catheter, then tuned it right around to live to a ripe old age... which is rare thing in the wilds of the Sur with all the coyotes, raccoons, bobcats, mountain lions, and such. I am so happy for you and Karma... !

Well hallelujah! Karma came home tonight. yipppeee! After going from door to door to door (I have lots of sliding glass doors in my house) he finally came to settle down in my lap. He does not yet understand his new life as an indoor kitty. I tortured him by watching "Winged Migration". He fell asleep and returned the favor by peeing in my lap as he slept. I guess I'm going to make a little bed for him in the bathroom tonight where his kitty litter is and see if he can remember that he no longer has a catheter attached.

One of my buddhist friends wrote that often our pets are boddhisattvas and come to take away our diseases. Sure enough at chemo today my acupuncturist said that my kidney yin pulse was much stronger. Yin being the more core pulses that change slowly, yang being the ones that change more quickly.

Anyway - just glad to have him back. I'm anticipating a few more interesting episodes in this transition. I'm going to bet I don't get too much sleep.
