I am sure most of you are aware that the upper units of SC burned down on Oct. 9. There is a website phoenixrisingproject.com where you can donate to the people who lost not only their housing- 6 of them lost all their belongings. Many are living in RV's on the lower lawn and Gazebo parking lot at SC. Esalen will take a couple years to rebuild and meantime better housing needs to be found for everyone. Most people did not have renters' insurance and Esalen had a small pool of money that will be divided up among them and cannot as a non-profit designate money for individuals. I am putting out a call- several people lost computers and phones and all of that and have little money for replacement. If you know of a place you could get such things donated let me know or if would like to donate yourself, go to the website. THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF ES AND STAFF IN GREAT NEED. Being With Your "Self"

This Legacy Program is an opportunity to quiet your mind and to ask yourself the very deep question “Who Am I?” We start with the egos stories that are always circulating through our mind and then we connect with the space in which these stories exist. The next step is a meditation process which lets you see what happens when we let every thing be just as it is. With that as a back drop we can enter self-enquiry an ancient method of opening up to the truth of your being beyond your ego and its stories. These experiencial  processes help you to shift your identification from the ego and personality to your essence.

For returning workscholars there is a Legacy group offering each month. It is a smaller group than the main one and includes staff. There are fewer class hours- mainly afternoon sessions. The fees and work hours remain the same. There is time to take more movement classes and do independent study.

This coming month Yoga is being offered by Johanna Holloman and Jan Sinclair.  Johanna and Jan will take you on a journey of Self Discovery, using Yoga as the doorway. We will emphasize the development of presence in our yoga practice, providing participants insight into the spiritual, as well as the physical benefits of this ancient system.

I want to let people know that Paul now lives in Carmelo Park, a lovely care home- he was evacuated during the fire and did so well that we decided to keep him there- he gained weight, can walk about by himself and seems content. I would like to gather stories and history about Paul so I could write something for the FOE newsletter- if you have info for me could you send it to maryanne.will@esalen.org? The workstudy program is going strong and we do have a scholarship fund if you want to help sponsor someone to participate in it. I still hear the comment "It changed my life" and people refer to the magic of Esalen and how they wish this could happen in the rest of the world! Six days ago John Callahan posted a blog about the time he was here as a workscholar and attended a community meeting- I was also at that meeting and wanted to lend my perspective.  As many of you know I coordinate the workstudy program and support the healing and life change that happens for people who participate (based on my own experience of same...).  Of course I did not take notes and it has been awhile since the meeting...

An added perk if anyone is going this coming month is that our very own John Callahan will be there in the Kenn Chase workshop! If anyone has any questions about Kenn Chase's work, you can ask John or me (Albert), 'cause we've both studied with Kenn during his work scholar month. Hi- I am trying to figure all of this out and so I left my blog and I can't come back and finish it so I am starting anew to ask if there is anyone out there with ideas about getting John's book published.  It is 185 pages of drawings that he did about being a workscholar. I want to make copies and have it avaiable for people to buy at a reasonable price. From an on-demand publisher it would be a $2500 set-up fee for 100 pages of prints and $50 a copy to publish it. Kinko's would be $.95 a copy so $185 per copy. HMMM... There must be a better way- Any ideas?
