Esalen
Greetings. Welcome to the group, "Esalen" -- for people who have lived, worked, and/or studied at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California.
For many of us who lived there, the time was rich, full, and extraordinary. For all people who have been touched by the spirit of the place, it is sometimes challenging to keep that spirit alive in the world outside the support of the container of Big Sur and Esalen.
This place is intended to become that supportive ground for people who have been moved by the spirit of the place, but who no longer, possibly, have immediate access to the special and sacred space of Esalen.
Everyone who has been moved by the spirit of Esalen, I believe, becomes, in their own way, an ambassador for a new way of thinking, feeling, and being in the world. May we carry on the torch and help bring truth, authenticity, love, and light for now and future generations.
The latest rumblings around the web from, about, or around Esalen.
Note: We are having monthly global Esalen weather reports in the Big House on the first Sunday of the month at 1:30PM, Pacific Time. All people who have lived, worked or studied at Esalen are welcome to join. Check the events calendar for a full listing of scheduled weather reports, open seats, or visiting teacher programs.

Multiplbe Personality Disorder (MPD), per this writer, can be induced purposely to control and use people. I found the read interesting and freightening. Is it true? I do not know, but it is presented very well. Open following site and read for 15 minutes. I would be interested in your opinion of what this site presents. Jim
Happy upcoming Father's Day (and wishing the best of the Big Sur wilderness to Steven and his Fathers and Sons Workshop)!
Hoping everyone at iThou has an excellent Summer Solstice on Monday!
This piece is a gem... It has been passed along person to person for over 20 years. From tape to tape and then to CD so there is some hissing in the background. I recommend passing it along, but knowing the right moment and person/group to pass it to is important... don't over play it... wait for it to call you to listen to it... As far as I know it has always been passed for free and without credits... Use it wisely. I post this here today because there is someone that needs to hear it. Enjoy...
Thanks to everyone for being patient [especially Benjamin Myers :-) ] ... so... here's the basically unedited interview with John... Hope you like it...

A Celebration of the Life of John Heider
1936-2010
The Drepung Loseling monk artists created a sand mandala of the Avalokiteshvara (buddha of compassion) mandala over a period of six days. The whole process was filmed and then the film was sped up.
"Hill set up two cameras in the room. One was an overhead camera that didn’t move during the six days; the other was moved every morning to get a different angle. Both ran continuously, shooting one frame every 30 seconds. When the last grain of sand was set, the monks didn’t spend time admiring their handiwork. Within about an hour, the elaborate art they had spent days crafting was carefully swept away during a ritualistic ceremony. This is normal practice, Rigzin said; it is done to symbolize the impermanence of life."

I hope we can all meditate together at 7:30 or 8:00 p.m. for the Wesak Full Moon. I'll be here.
