Esalen
Greetings. Welcome to the group, "Esalen" -- for people who have lived, worked, and/or studied at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California.
For many of us who lived there, the time was rich, full, and extraordinary. For all people who have been touched by the spirit of the place, it is sometimes challenging to keep that spirit alive in the world outside the support of the container of Big Sur and Esalen.
This place is intended to become that supportive ground for people who have been moved by the spirit of the place, but who no longer, possibly, have immediate access to the special and sacred space of Esalen.
Everyone who has been moved by the spirit of Esalen, I believe, becomes, in their own way, an ambassador for a new way of thinking, feeling, and being in the world. May we carry on the torch and help bring truth, authenticity, love, and light for now and future generations.
The latest rumblings around the web from, about, or around Esalen.
Note: We are having monthly global Esalen weather reports in the Big House on the first Sunday of the month at 1:30PM, Pacific Time. All people who have lived, worked or studied at Esalen are welcome to join. Check the events calendar for a full listing of scheduled weather reports, open seats, or visiting teacher programs.

Was recently in Vermont, and came across this lake in the Northern part of Vermont. Unfortunately I had picked a week were it was raining everyday and had flash flood warnings all over the Northeast Kingdom, which apparently is very rare in August. But because of the rains, the lake was reflected with a beautiful dark blue color.
Here is a link to a few photos I have posted: http://www.flickr.com/photos/surharper/sets/72157605795199248/
I will post more links to information and photos if/when I get time. Many freinds have lost homes. Many special places to me have burned... While I am safe, fires can change in a moments notice... for better or worse... so back to clearing more brush and preparing for any changes in the wind, weather, and fire. S
Drove through Big Sur video taped the aftermath of the fire and plenty of beauty still there. Esalen
was unavailable for a personal retreat (on my way back from San Diego Comic Con).
Adventures in S.D. (and alternate route due to major accident on freeway), Encinitas, Laguna Beach,
Carpenteria, Morrow Bay, Big Sur, Pacific Grove, Mount Shasta -- quite a lot of fun and of course way too much driving for just one person). Got back to Ashland went past my limit and attended their first Fri. artwalk which I should have skipped.
Intense 4 days at comic con buying original comic art; Masquerade was good. Got some good film; gotta figure out how to get it on the computer and then to edit it.
Just learned that Peggy Horan, one of the classic old school Esalen Massage teachers, is retiring from the Massage Crew. [This might be old news to some of you, but it's definitely news to me.]
Peggy was always a "classic." She was the head of the Massage Crew for many years at Esalen, and shepherded it through many rough patches. I knew her from managers meetings and she was always a calming and balanced influence on what was happening at Esalen.
She was also in charge of the massage crew at the time they put together its fantastic Esalen massage video.
I heard that she's bought a small little store, or something like that, just south of Esalen.
Here's a little article in Massage magazine about Peggy and her daughter Lucia. Much love to you Peggy.
